Pamela Page

Pamela Page (born in 1934) is a professional Australian pianist most famous both nationally and internationally for her touring duets with her husband and fellow pianist, Max Olding.

At fifteen years old, Page won a scholarship to study at the Trinity College of Music, in London (Wikipedia 2015c; Flemming, J 2012), where she was also awarded the most outstanding student. Eventually rising to a standard of classical-music royalty in Australia, she toured all over the country giving concerto performances.

Later she was appointed as Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Music in the University of Queensland (Wikipedia 2015c) and, a few years ago, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from UQ "in recognition of her distinguished career and significant achievements and service to Queensland and Australia" (Flemming, J 2012).

Pamela Page is also a long-standing examiner for AMEB and a painter as well. Further exploring her passion for arts, she delved into a recent exploration of syaesthesia and the special relationship between her music and the colours. Page "has combined her talents in music and painting through bi-media presentations, in which her large-scale abstract realisations of major works of music are synthesised with her accompanying performance of the works" (Flemming, J 2012). These include:

  • Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition

  • Liszt's Piano Sonata

  • Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit

These works have been exhibited at many local art galleries.
